Mahendra Cave & Bat Caves This is a large limestone cave famous for its stalactites and stalagmites, and is located 9km to the northeast of lakeside. The length of this cave is 215 meters and stretches over 50 ropanies of land. Width of the entrance is about 15 meters whereas, average width is about 3.5 meters. Named after the then King Mahendra who visited the natural wonder in 1960. Bat Cave (Chamere Gufa in Nepali), is another cave nearby which is full of bats. Exploration of this cave is an adventure in itself because of the thousands of bats inside. There are no natural lights or electric lights inside, so visitors must carry torch lights and not disturb the natural habitat of bats. Once inside, you’ll hear a lot of haunting sounds and this cave is not for those who have claustrophobia or don’t feel courageous enough. For the greater adventure seekers, there is a tiny exit where people barely fit, but many try to pursue this exit, for adventure. |
Seti River Gorge Seti Gorge is a 7-kilometer-long marvel in Pokhara that begins at K.I Singh bridge and meanders all the way to Dhungesanghu with openings at Ramghat and Tulsighat. The snow-fed Seti River burrows deep into the limestone earth-bed, carving a narrow gorge hundreds of feet deep through the heart of Pokhara. It’s roar can be heard and foaming water can be seen from several bridges: One near British Camp, Narayansthan Bridge, Mahendrapool, and Prithivichowk. We visit the KI Singh bridge to see this gorge. |
Bindhyabasini Temple An important hindu shrine of Pokhara. It is located on the top of a small hillock near the old bazaar. The white dome structure is dedicated to hindu Godess Bhagawati; worshippers come here to perform sacrifices on some days. It is believed to be one of the oldest temples in the valley, and if you’re lucky enough to have a co-incidence, you can get a chance to see a Nepalese Hindu Marriage ceremony! The temple is located 4km north from lakeside. |
Devis Falls A fascinating waterfall located 2 km southwest of lakeside, on the Siddartha Highway. The water overflowing from Phewa Lake, drops to a cavernous gorge forming the fall. This water reappears a kilometer south and merges into a rivulet Phusre Khol. The cavern is about 10 meters across and 16 meters deep. The swirl of water generates lovely rainbows that flicker against the water vapour before dissappearing into the earth. |
Gupteshwor Cave Located about 3 km southwest of lakeside, near Devis Falls. Believed to be 500 years old, the cave was discovered in 1992 and has become a popular pilgrimage site—nature has carved an image of Lord Shiva. A well maintained spiral staircase leads down to the cav, which is sufficiently lit. This cave is one of the outlets of Devis falls. Behind the statue of Lord Shiva, there is a small tunnel that leads the cave to the Devis falls, where you can enjoy the underground view of the fall. |
International Mountain Museum Located 1.5 km south of Pokhara airport and about 5 km from Lakeside, is devoted to the mountains of Nepal. It provides information about mountaineering, history of mountaineering, as well as the culture, diversity, environment, history, geography, ecology of the Himalayas. |
Phewa Lake & Tal Barahi Temple The biggest lake in Kaski, Phewa Lake has developed as an Pokhara’s central tourist area. There is a pagoda-styled temple dedicated to godess Barahi built on a small island in the middle of Phewa Lake. The temple is one of the most famous places of pilgrimage in Pokhara. The island is known for tranquility and the reflection of Annapurna and Fishtail mountains on the surface of the water. Boats are always available on rent to get to the temple.
